Real talk? I LOVE LOVE!!! I believe with my whole heart that everyone deserves to be loved by whomever they choose—and friend, I didn't settle when it came to that belief.
For years, I thought I was failing because I couldn't do it all. Turns out, I was drowning because I was doing EVERYTHING.
My Empathy made me everyone's therapist. My Relator made me loyal to people who weren't loyal back. My Positivity convinced me things would get better if I just tried harder. My Arranger made me the fixer. My WOO made me perform "totally fine" while drowning inside.
Sound familiar?
Here's what I learned: I wasn't failing. I was carrying everything alone and wondering why I was exhausted.
So I chose ME. Left the job that drained me. Stopped dating people who didn't match my effort. And I worked on my self-love—date after mediocre or horrible date. Yeah, it sucked. There were lonely nights crying myself to sleep. But I kept at it. I even dated myself. I decided I would rather be single than settle for mediocre love.
Persistence paid off at 38 when I met my person—the love that led me to Washington State and proved what nearly 20 years in this work has shown me:
Loving bravely is hard work. Even scary at times. But nothing worth having comes easy, and it all starts with YOURSELF.
